Hydrogen will also be blended with natural gas and used in the home's tank-less water heater, clothes dryer, and gas stove, fireplace and BBQ grill. The home is being constructed to LEED Platinum standards.
Toyota-Kenworth hydrogen-powered fuel cell truck capabilities ‘proven’ in trial
Toyota Motor North America and Kenworth Truck Company have today (September 22) said a project has “proved” their jointly designed, hydrogen-powered heavy-duty class 8 fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV) can match the performance of diesel.
It comes after the completion of their operations in the Zero and Near-Zero Emission Freight Facilities (ZANZEFF) Shore to Store project at the Port of Los Angeles, which tested 10 Toyota-Kenworth T680 FCEV truck, codenamed Ocean.
Using a 2017 diesel engine operating around 200 miles a day as baseline, Toyota and Kenworth say the T680 has a range of approximately 300 miles when fully loaded to 37,200kg with no downtime between shifts for charging.

The strategy will leverage the organization’s earlier roadmaps and visions for cars and heavy-duty trucks, as well as national laboratory and state transportation models. In addition, it draws upon California’s policy and investment experience that launched the first retail zero-emission vehicle market in the world and identified achievable steps to a self-sustaining fueling network.
“When the Partnership published its first roadmap outlining how California could launch the world's first fuel cell car market, there were no retail stations or vehicles available. Many questioned if stakeholders could pull off such a feat,” said Bill Elrick, executive director of HFCP. “A decade later, with increasing global recognition of the importance of hydrogen in achieving our zero-emission vehicle and renewable energy objectives, we are more certain that this is a necessary and achievable objective. Hydrogen is no longer a question of ‘if’; rather, it is one of ‘who leads and where first’?”

The use of hydrogen-powered taxis is accelerating across Europe. Following trials with BEVs, Hype Taxis in Paris adopted hydrogen power in 2015, as the solution appeared to be well-adapted to the needs of a fleet service. Hyundai Motor Puts XCIENT Fuel Cell Electric Trucks into Commercial Fleet Operation in California
Hyundai Motor Company announced today that it has secured $3.5 million in 2021 Targeted Airshed Grant (TAG) funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) to deploy five XCIENT Fuel Cell electric trucks in California.
First Element Fuel (FEF), the largest hydrogen-refueling station operator in the U.S., will deploy the Class-8 heavy-duty trucks to deliver liquified hydrogen to their refueling stations for the next five years, including one year of demonstration with reporting duties to U.S. EPA and four years of commercial operation.
Schaeffler develops hydrogen mobility for commercial vehicles
Schaeffler’s focus on drive systems for commercial vehicles includes hydrogen technology, especially for long-haul applications. The company is developing innovative components for fuel cell systems and laying the groundwork for them to be produced on an industrial scale. “Schaeffler sees fuel cells as an important part of the overall mix of drive technologies for commercial vehicles,” said Matthias Zink, CEO Automotive Technologies at Schaeffler AG.
