How Can Airports Get Hydrogen Ready Now to Land Net Zero Targets?
The new roadmap provides airports with steps which can be incrementally implemented to ensure hydrogen-powered flights are able to take off as soon as aircraft are available. It recommends that airports start with providing airside hydrogen gas storage and refueling stations in time for the first flights, before developing more advanced liquid hydrogen storage and gas pipelines for fueling planes by the early 2050s.

Ricardo repowers double decker diesel bus with hydrogen fuel cells ready for zero emission demonstration on Teesside
Ricardo is seeking to offer the hydrogen fuel cell re-powered vehicles at around half the price of a new bus, significantly reducing the upfront investment required whilst also avoiding some 45,000kg of carbon dioxide emissions by extending the life of existing buses rather than building from new. The aim is to secure 50% match funding investment plus customer commitment for an initial production of 150 buses that can enter service from late 2024.

Norway: Enova supports hydrogen projects in the maritime sector with NOK 1.12 billion
The five production facilities for renewable hydrogen will establish an infrastructure that will enable further technology development in the industry. The hubs will also be able to supply fuel to the hydrogen-powered vessels that Enova has supported.
- These ships are among the first in the world to use hydrogen for propulsion, and the hubs that are now supported by Enova will ensure that the fuel becomes available to them. In total, the hubs will have a capacity to deliver hydrogen to between 35 and 40 vessels, says Nakstad.
Hydrogen Fuel Cell Development at the Fore of Chuang’s International Research
They are working on material and design optimization with researchers in the Philippines through PCARI — the Philippine Commission on Higher Education’s Philippine-California Advanced Research Institutes.
PCARI is a multi-year research collaborative supported by Silicon Valley entrepreneur Dado Banatao, who founded the Banatao Institute, which partners with the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS). Banatao’s interest lies in bringing UC science and engineering to the Philippines.

AC Transit Unveils Latest Roadmaps to 2040: ZETBTA Volume 3, ZEB Transition Plan
Volume 3 of the Zero Emission Transit Bus Technology Analysis (ZETBTA) represents the latest iteration of our groundbreaking study and collaboration with Stanford University’s Precourt Institute for Energy. The study offers invaluable insight into workforce development, data integration and management, procurement, and infrastructure updates, ultimately offering transit agencies around the globe a roadmap toward full transition to zero-emission technologies.
In June 2020, AC Transit released a Zero Emission Bus Rollout Plan in compliance with California’s mandate to transition public transit fleets to zero emission by 2040. The report is a living document that integrates ZETBTA fleet performance data, which when combined, helps our transit district navigate the road to 2040.

The adventurer twins exploring the most remote parts of the world
The Turner Twins, who are scheduled to depart towards the end of June, will travel on a 12-meter yacht fitted with a prototype hydrogen fuel cell in a bid to put the spotlight on hydrogen fuel technology, as well as ocean advocacy.
They''ll also rely on hydrogen, which is created using renewable energy rather than fossil fuels, to power all of their equipment.
"It will be great to be able to do a fully hydrogen-powered project in the future," says Hugo Turner. "That would be a really good step in the right direction."
